If you want the full explanation first, start here: The VaultRule Two-Account System (Simple Version).
Step 1 (3 minutes): Create two accounts
- Vault: bills + annual ÷ 12 + buffer
- Flow: day-to-day spending
Pick a setup that’s easy to automate: VaultRule Banking Checklist.
Step 2 (5 minutes): Calculate your Vault number
Your Vault number is:
Vault = Monthly bills + (Annual costs ÷ 12) + Buffer
Use: How to calculate your Vault amount.
If you’re unsure what counts as a bill, use: What counts as a bill (and what doesn’t).
Step 3 (5 minutes): Automate payday transfers
Set your transfers in this order:
- Transfer #1: Payday → Vault (fund bills first)
- Transfer #2: Payday → Flow (your spending cap)
Copy a ready schedule here: VaultRule Automation Templates (monthly/biweekly/weekly).
Full automation guide: Automate VaultRule on payday.
Step 4 (2 minutes): Auto-pay bills from Vault
Auto-pay bills from Vault so Flow stays “clean.” Use: Vault bill-pay checklist.
Step 5 (optional): Set a Flow cap rule
Flow works best when it has a real cap (not a guess). Use: How to set your Flow limit.
That’s it. Two accounts, correct Vault, automated payday, and a clear Flow boundary.
