The rule (always the same)
- Transfer 1: Payday → Vault (bills first)
- Transfer 2: Payday → Flow (spending cap)
Your Vault number should be: bills + annual ÷ 12 + buffer. Use: How to Calculate Your Vault Amount.
Full automation guide: Automate VaultRule on Payday (So It Runs Itself).
Template 1: Monthly pay (most common)
On payday:
- Payday → Vault: your full monthly Vault amount
- Payday → Flow: your full monthly Flow amount
Optional safety: set low-balance alerts for Flow to stop spending before it hits €0.
Template 2: Biweekly pay (26 paychecks/year)
On each paycheck:
- Paycheck → Vault: (monthly Vault × 12) ÷ 26
- Paycheck → Flow: (monthly Flow × 12) ÷ 26
This keeps the system stable even though paydays “shift” across months.
Template 3: Weekly pay (52 paychecks/year)
On each paycheck:
- Paycheck → Vault: (monthly Vault × 12) ÷ 52
- Paycheck → Flow: (monthly Flow × 12) ÷ 52
Weekly works well if you like a tighter Flow rhythm (less chance to “blow” a whole month early).
What if Flow runs out?
Don’t touch Vault. Use: What to Do When Flow Runs Out.
